Driving the main road from Suleja toward Abuja, the rock rises abruptly from the surrounding plains - a wall of gabbro and granodiorite, Precambrian in age, climbing approximately 725 meters above sea level. Locals call it the Gateway to Abuja, and the name fits. Before the capital existed, before the road existed, the rock stood here, and the people who lived in its shadow built their world around it.]]></description>
