The light marks Ponta de Zavora, a headland on the Inhambane coast of Mozambique, 420 kilometres northeast of Maputo, where the Indian Ocean breaks over a natural reef system that has drawn fishermen for centuries and tourists for decades. But the reef is not the only thing the sea has kept here. Beneath the surface, the history of two world wars has left its own markers.
