Photo credit Dough4872, Public domain. On Memorial Day weekend in 1954, Bill Haley and His Comets took the stage at the HofBrau Hotel and played "Rock Around the Clock" for the very first time. Named for the wildflowers that once carpeted this stretch of Cape May County shoreline, Wildwood today is a place where mid-century glamour refuses to fade, where neon signs still buzz against the salt air, and where the beach remains gloriously free.
