Opened on January 20, 1931, this Art Deco jewel in San Pedro was one of three lavish movie palaces Warner Bros. built across Los Angeles to showcase the talking pictures that were revolutionizing entertainment. The theaters in Beverly Hills and Huntington Park are gone now, demolished or gutted beyond recognition. The Grand alone survives intact, its 1,489 seats still arranged beneath the same ornate ceiling that dazzled Depression-era audiences.
