What he found instead was black glass, white sandstone, and chunks of iron scattered across the sand -- the remains of a meteorite impact so recent that Bedouin still told stories about the fireball. The Wabar craters, hidden in one of the most remote places on Earth, are among the youngest and best-preserved impact sites ever documented. They exist because a meteorite slammed into sand rather than rock, creating a natural laboratory for studying what happens when something from space hits the ground at cosmic speed.]]></description>
