Originally called Jakobsdal after its first owner, the powerful nobleman Jacob De la Gardie, the palace began as a country escape built between 1638 and 1645. Today it stands as a layered monument to changing royal tastes, housing everything from Carl Malmsten's modernist furniture to the silver collection of King Gustaf V.
