That fact alone tells you something important: this is a place where everything was compressed, where medieval builders worked within the tight constraints of a small island wedged between the Croatian mainland and the larger island of Ciovo. What they built within those limits earned Trogir a place on the UNESCO World Heritage List as one of the best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. Encased in 15th-century walls, threaded with streets so narrow two people can barely pass, Trogir is a concentrated lesson in what happens when ambition meets limited space and centuries of patience.
