The paintings, attributed to Benedetto Bembo, are among the most celebrated examples of secular bedchamber decoration in Italy, and they reveal something unusual about this castle: it was built not primarily for war but for a love affair. Between 1448 and 1460, on a terraced hill overlooking the Parma River valley, Rossi created a fortress that was also a monument to private passion. He and Bianca are both buried here, in the Oratory of San Nicomede in the northeast tower.]]></description>
