Tofino, population around 2,300, sits at the absolute western edge of Vancouver Island, surrounded on three sides by water and backed by some of the most spectacular coastline in Canada. It is a surf town, a whale-watching hub, a filmmakers' backdrop, and the kind of place people drive across the country to reach -- partly because there is literally nowhere further to go.]]></description>
