Smuggler Cove, tucked into the south side of the Sechelt Peninsula near Secret Cove, earned its title from a man known as both "Pirate" and the "King of the Smugglers." Larry Kelly fought for the Confederacy in the American Civil War, then drifted north to British Columbia and found a second career in the hidden inlets of the Sunshine Coast. Whether the cove itself served as his base of operations is a matter of local legend rather than documented fact, but the name stuck, and the story it carries is stranger than anything a parks department would invent.
