In October 2007, the wooden ferry MV Acita 03 was carrying 174 passengers and crew through the Kadatua Strait toward the port city of Baubau in Southeast Sulawesi. The vessel was more crowded than usual -- mudik always fills the boats -- and as the ferry approached the dock, passengers moved to the starboard side. They were searching for mobile phone signal, eager to call ahead and say they were almost home. The ferry tipped. Thirty-one people never arrived.]]></description>
