Four years later, in 1502, the pioneering playwright Gil Vicente staged his Monologo do Vaqueiro in the same castle to honor the birth of Manuel's heir. War and art, navigation and theater, commerce and faith: for nearly three thousand years, the hilltop fortress now called Sao Jorge Castle has been the stage on which Lisbon's defining moments played out.]]></description>
