It was the first night of bungkalan, the collective farming practice through which landless workers occupy idle hacienda land and cultivate it for subsistence. Within minutes, gunmen opened fire. The shooting lasted ten minutes. Four women and two children were among the dead. Three of the victims' bodies were burned afterward.]]></description>
