This is life on the Keweenaw Peninsula, where the world's heaviest and widest double-decked vertical-lift bridge serves double duty as a highway and a snowmobile corridor, and where the structure officially known as the Houghton-Hancock Bridge has been the only land-based link between Copper Island to the north and the rest of Michigan to the south since 1959.]]></description>
