Inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1982, it dates from the late tenth century, when Chola invaders from southern India conquered Anuradhapura and shifted the island's power center here. What the Cholas started, the Sinhalese kings perfected - and what they built still stands.]]></description>
