Stand at Poeppel Corner during daylight saving and you straddle three time zones at once: a footstep in Queensland, a footstep in South Australia, a footstep in the Northern Territory. There is no town, no border post, no neon - just sand ridges marching to the horizon and a lone marker where the lines on the map converge. To reach this point at 26 degrees south and 138 degrees east, you have to cross the Simpson Desert itself, and the desert does not let you arrive casually.
