Above the megastore, a statue of Sir Matt Busby looks across to the ground he rebuilt. The tunnel under the South Stand was renamed the Munich Tunnel on the fiftieth anniversary. To walk into Old Trafford is to feel a stadium that is also a memorial — and a home, and a workplace, and, in a few years' time, a building scheduled for demolition.
