The village sits in Diyala Province, northeast of Baghdad and south of Baquba, in a region where the fault lines between Iraq's Sunni and Shia communities run close to the surface. On August 22, 2014, those fault lines ruptured. By the time the afternoon was over, seventy-three people lay dead -- all of them from the same tribe, the Bani Wais, and all of them killed for the act of gathering to worship.]]></description>
