By dawn on the 26th she was a wreck on the seabed off the Humber, two of her crew dead - Captain Stankiewicz and a crewman lost overboard during the evacuation - and a Polish ship with no homeland left to return to. Poland had fallen seven weeks earlier. The Piłsudski had simply kept sailing.
