Its concentric rings of ramparts and ditches ripple outward across a hilltop southwest of Dorchester, enclosing an area of roughly 47 hectares. No photograph conveys the scale. This is the largest Iron Age hillfort in Europe, and standing inside its grass-covered walls, the modern world disappears entirely. The wind carries nothing but birdsong and the distant sound of sheep.
