The town clings to a green hilltop on the eastern shoulder of Euboea, and below it the land falls away to a small harbor and then to open water that stretches uninterrupted toward Skyros. Most of Euboea faces the mainland across a narrow strait. Kymi turns the other way, looking out into the sea itself, which is why for centuries it has been less a stopping point than a vantage point.]]></description>
