On the shores of Klamath Lake in what is now Oregon, that darkness would culminate in the destruction of a village called Dokdokwas. The date was May 12, 1846. Kit Carson led the assault. At least fourteen Klamath people died. The attackers suffered no casualties. Neither Fremont nor any member of his expedition would ever face charges for the killings.]]></description>
