The Liaoxi Corridor, a narrow strip of land between mountains and the Bohai Sea, is the main overland route connecting North China to the vast plains of Manchuria. Every army, every migration, every trade caravan heading northeast has had to pass through this bottleneck, and Jinzhou has been the city waiting at its mouth for over a thousand years. China's northernmost seaport, a garrison town, a civil war battleground, and now a city of 2.7 million -- Jinzhou wears its layers of history openly.
