On the morning of 22 October 1979, on a curve along Invergowrie Bay where the Glasgow-to-Aberdeen line runs beside the Firth of Tay, the train he was driving struck a stationary passenger service at around 60 mph. Five people died. Fifty-one were injured. Four coaches went over the sea wall; two ended up in the Firth itself.]]></description>
