The younger nationalists and their wives sang Boer War songs on the grounds while a female parliamentarian declared, "Every white woman and every white mother thanks you from the depth of her heart." Thirty-four years later, on 4 May 1990, Nelson Mandela sat in the same building with President F. W. De Klerk and signed the Groote Schuur Minute - a commitment to end the violence, release political prisoners, and begin the negotiations that would dismantle apartheid. The estate that hosted the celebration of white supremacy also hosted its funeral.]]></description>
