According to First Nations oral history, the remains of a white man were found near the falls, and the waterway has been called the Englishman River ever since. It is a stark origin for a place that most visitors associate with swimming holes and summer picnics, but it sets the right tone: Englishman River Falls Provincial Park is beautiful in a way that reminds you the Pacific Northwest does not soften its edges for anyone.
