The Government of Sudan had decided that the Christianized, Western-educated elite of the south were rebels by default. Teaching girls in a mission school was therefore, in Khartoum's logic, sedition. The headmaster was among the first of a long list. His name does not appear in most histories of the First Sudanese Civil War. He was a Shilluk man with chalk on his hands.
