He started several across southwest Riverside County, as if testing to see which would catch. The one near Mountain Center did more than catch. By evening, flames were racing through the San Jacinto Mountains, swallowing chaparral and timber, forcing 2,000 people to grab what they could and flee. The Cranston Fire had begun its sixteen-day assault on the communities nestled in the San Bernardino National Forest.]]></description>
