Until the late 1980s, the only electrical power came from batteries. The only telephone connected to the adjacent signal boxes at Rannoch and Tulloch, which were themselves on the public system. And yet this station -- the highest mainline halt in the United Kingdom, perched at 1,340 feet above sea level on the West Highland Line -- recorded 14,344 passengers in the 2018-2019 season, making it the busiest station on the line north of Crianlarich apart from Fort William and Mallaig. Isolation, it turns out, is the attraction.
