China Northern Airlines Flight 6136 was a routine domestic service from Beijing Capital International Airport to Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport. The McDonnell Douglas MD-82 operating the flight had been built in 1991 and had accumulated roughly 27,000 hours of reliable service. Nothing about the aircraft, the crew, or the weather that evening suggested catastrophe.
