Chapman's errand was unremarkable - the kind of thing ship's pilots did routinely along unfamiliar coasts - but the peak above the bay kept his name. Chapman's Chaunce, the old charts called it, and the name evolved into Chapman's Peak, a mountain whose western face drops hundreds of meters straight into the Atlantic Ocean. Four centuries after Chapman's brief shore leave, a road hacked into that cliff face would become one of the most celebrated drives on Earth.]]></description>
