When they looked at this perfectly formed pool of turquoise water punched into the coastal limestone, they saw the work of a falling star. They named it Hawiyyat Najm -- the deep well of the star. Science eventually offered a more prosaic answer involving dissolved limestone and collapsed surface layers, but standing at the rim of Bimmah Sinkhole, watching light refract through water so clear it seems to glow from within, the meteor theory feels more honest.
