On 19 April 1871, Algerian rebels poured out of the hills from three directions and burned it to the ground. The settlers had fled just hours earlier. What followed over the next three weeks was one of the bloodiest episodes of the Mokrani Revolt, a chapter in which both the hope of Algerian liberation and the savagery of colonial reprisal played out across the same contested ridgelines.]]></description>
