In late 1825, King Bagyidaw ordered General Maha Ne Myo to retake the city of Prome -- modern-day Pyay -- on the banks of the Irrawaddy River, where British forces had dug in after months of campaigning. What followed was a three-day battle that ended the last serious Burmese effort to reverse the war, and set the stage for a peace treaty that would strip the kingdom of its western territories.
