Klein Lagoen -- officially, that is its name, though nobody calls it that -- is a shallow, sheltered lagoon at the southeastern tip of Aruba where a man-made breakwater has tamed the Caribbean into something resembling a swimming pool. The nickname stuck because the obvious comparison is the obvious one: this is water safe enough for babies. Locals brought their children here for decades before tourists discovered it, and the beach retains that unhurried, family-first character even as Aruba's resort strip on the opposite coast grows ever more polished.
