The tree grew around it after the temple fell. No one placed it there deliberately; the forest simply reclaimed what the Burmese armies left behind. This single image -- sacred face, living wood, patient time -- captures everything Ayutthaya Historical Park is about: a city destroyed, then gradually absorbed back into the earth, then partially excavated and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991.
