They were Tanganekald people, killed in about September 1848 on the flat country near Guichen Bay, in the southeast of the young colony of South Australia. The man who investigated the killings had no doubt who was responsible. The magistrate who sent the case toward trial said there was "little question of the butchery or the butcher." And yet no one was ever convicted. The story of the Avenue Range Station massacre is partly the story of those who died, and partly the story of how a colony arranged itself so that their deaths would never be answered for.]]></description>
