And as recently as 2014, a Chinese billionaire broke ground on a $50 billion version that was supposed to dwarf the Panama Canal. None of them succeeded. The canal that almost was has shaped Nicaraguan history as profoundly as the canal that actually exists has shaped Panama's.]]></description>
