The restriction was not enforced by checkpoints or fences. It did not need to be. The terrain itself serves as the barrier: 4,000 square kilometers of dense forest, steep hills, and rivers that swell to impassable torrents during the monsoon. Larger than the entire state of Goa, Abujhmarh sprawls across three districts of southern Chhattisgarh, home to roughly 34,000 tribal people living in 233 villages that remain cut off from the outside world for six months of every year.]]></description>
