A single fellow driver, David Purley, had stopped his own race, sprinted across a live track, and was trying alone to right the car. The marshals nearby were not wearing fire-retardant overalls and would not approach the heat. The race continued at full speed. It would take eight minutes for a fire truck to circle the circuit with the flow of traffic. By then Williamson was dead of asphyxiation, twenty-five years old, on the eighth lap of his second-ever Grand Prix.]]></description>
